Stripes are flattering for the figure only if you pick the right ones. Choose the wrong stripes and it will be a disaster. The wrong stripes can make you look 10 pounds overweight, or even more. As one of the strong trends for this spring/summer, it is high time that you
were shown which stripes to wear and which to avoid. Part of being Chic and Elegant is knowing the styles and designs that suit your shape and size. Today, I shall show you which stripes are good for your figure and why. My next post will be about which stripes to avoid.
/ This dress is white and figure-hugging so may be unforgiving for the larger sizes. However, the two thin black lines at the front of the dress go in at the waist, thus help to create a slimmer waistline.
/ This monochrome dress works on the same principles as the previous one, but here, the stripes are situated on the sides. These garments work by optical illusion, making the eye see only what you want it to see. Here, the eye only sees the narrow white panel at the front, and is tricked into seeing a slimmer, hourglass, figure.
/ The crossed stripes will give the wearer an attractive bust line. By criss-crossing stripes, you make the eye move towards the middle of the body and not to the sides. This gives the impression that the person is narrower than they are. Plus sized women will look great with this type of stripes.
/ This dress will be best worn by pear shapes. The wide horizontal stripes widen the torso while the verticals on the skirt slim and lengthen the bottom and thighs. This mix of horizontal and vertical stripes works well to create balance to the pear shape. Find more advice and tips in my Pear Shape ebook.
/ This belted dress is perfect for creating a slimmer and longer silhouette. The black belt shows off a narrow waist. The V neck and the narrow band of horizontal lines going down the middle of the dress work together really well. They minimize a large torso and narrow the whole figure. A must-have for plus-sizes. Find more advice and tips in my Plus Size ebook.
/ Even though the eye goes from side to side on this dress, it also goes up and down, therefore not widening you at your widest point. As a matter of fact, diagonal lines do not show your widest point. That's the winning formula. The extra help this dress gives your figure are the two black triangles at the waist line. These give the illusion of a narrow waist, ideal for apple shapes!
/ This mix of diagonal and vertical stripes works twice as hard for your figure! As per the previous dress, the diagonals help your contours by streamlining them. The vertical band at the centre of the dress narrows the width of your body.
/This skirt will streamline your hips and thighs with the downward diagonal stripes, good for pear shapes. Do not choose sandals such as those shown here though, or that thick strap will give an unattractive cut-off point at your feet.
