You've been telling yourself for months that you need to do something about the mess in your closet. Have you done anything yet? No? Then isn't it high time you decluttered your closet?
If you answer the following questions with a resounding "yes!", it is time to say 'adieu' to that messy closet.
Do you have an untidy closet that is bursting at the seams?
Do you find it frustrating to get dressed in the morning?
Do all your clothes get creased as there are too many cramped in there?
Do you tend to wear most of your clothes only once or twice?
Do you always complain that you have nothing to wear?
For some reason or other, you have let clothes and accessories creep in, or should I say "flood in"?
After a short while, the situation has become too overwhelming and now you don't know where to start. After all your reasons and excuses not to tackle this closet decluttering, it is my turn to lay out 6 benefits of a decluttered and tidy closet. They are:
1/ Less stress
Clutter has a nasty tendency to stress us out. Just the thought of it irritates and frustrates us. Tidiness and order allow us to relax in clean and organised surroundings. Which one would you rather have, stress or relaxation?
You are faced with too many clothes that do not go well with each other. Too much choice makes it difficult to choose which ones to wear. The result is that you are not as well dressed as you possibly could. Paring down your wardrobe to basics and classics will mean that you always have something to wear. Later, you can Introduce a few more trendy elements which will compliment those essential pieces. Et voilà, a chic wardrobe.
3/ More time
You spend too much time digging through your tons of clothes and dithering over what to wear. With a decluttered and tidy closet, you will quickly find the clothes you need. With the extra time gained, you can finally sit down for breakfast.
4/ Less ironing
Once you have removed all the unnecessary clothes and accessories from your closet, there will be more space for the items that you do keep. As they will no longer be squashed together tightly, these will remain well pressed. You will not have to iron them again before wearing them. And who can argue about less ironing?
5/ Less guilt
I have heard from many women that the sight of so many unworn clothes and shoes made them feel guilty. What a sad state of affairs. Our clothes should not fill us with a sense of dread every time we open our closet. Less clothes, but clothes that you wear regularly, will give you the confirmation that you are doing it right.
6/ No better time than the present
If those benefits were not enough, here's another one. If it is time to declutter your closet and organise your wardrobe, then there is no time like the present. You have delayed this task for far too long. It is fairly safe to say that you will receive clothes and accessories for Christmas. These presents will need space in your closet. You now have a deadline.
I hope that I have made you think about the benefits of a decluttered and tidy closet. You will get less stress, ironing and guilt. You will gain extra time in the mornings and be better dressed. Did I mention being happy too?
