Despite the flooded red carpet that threatened to ruin the event, the Golden Globe Awards 2014 went ahead as planned.
There was plenty of talent and winners at the Awards last night, but not all in style,
unfortunately. Some dresses were stunning, some were so-so, while others were just a no-no. Today I would like to share with you my choice of the top best dresses for elegance and style and the worst dresses, which did nothing for the wearer.
Here we go!
Best Dressed Stars of the Golden Globe Awards 2014
Kate Beckinsale looks ravishing in this Zuhair Murad silver gown. The bustier top gives her bust an attractive lift while nipping her in at the waist. The gown moulds her enviable figure throughout and finishes off with a fishtail that really gives her the multi-million dollar look.
Cate Blanchett looks every lacy inch the superstar in this black Armani gown. Her hairstyle is simple but soigné and her elegant jewellery is to die for. The dress covers up her body at the front but shows off her back in a sexy way. A true winner Cate, well done!
Taylor Swift shows us that she's got tremendous taste in this Carolina Herrera gown. I just love the black bustier peeking out from this raspberry dress. The whole gown is very movie-star-esque, if there is such a word. Taylor, you can teach actresses twice your age a thing or two about style and elegance. Bravo, my dear.
Uma Thurman looks elegant in this figure hugging Versace dress. It shows off her tall, slim figure beautifully. Her svelte silhouette is further emphasised by the fishtail. She deserves an encore!
Emma Roberts chose this black Lanvin gown for the 2014 Awards. I like the way that her face takes centre stage, thanks to this simple, yet perfectly cut evening dress. She has flair and it shows.
Worst Dressed Stars of the Golden Globe Awards 2014
Paula Patton could probably win the award of the worst dressed celebrities this year. The stunning-looking actress has chosen to wear, on such a glamourous evening, one of the ugliest gowns I have ever seen. Je suis désolée Monsieur Rolland, but this creation of yours resembles one of your worst theatre costumes. I thought French designers were among the best? Really disappointed here. The 'appendage' on the side is like an afterthought on a blander than bland dress. The whole thing reminds me of Björk's 'dead swan' dress. The white fabric is so clingy and thin that Ms Patton's ribs and knees can clearly be seen through it. Paula, you have to do better next time, get another stylist or something. PS: I am available if you need help for the Oscars ;0)
Tina Fey chose Carolina Herrera as her designer for the night. However, this was not a good choice for the beautiful actress. The cut and superfluous 'overhang' at the waist of this gown swamps Tina's silhouette. If this was not enough, the large flower pattern completely takes over, to such an extent that Tina all but disappears. For a petite frame like hers, fitted simple styles would be perfect. Wrong choice, such a shame.
Adorable Emma Watson. At this prestigious event, she opted for a cheeky half-finished Dior dress. The front looks like any other gown. However, the back looks like she is wearing a long red apron. This is not an elegant look from the back, as leggings have to be worn if you don't want to be done for indecent exposure. The only redeeming feature is Emma's youth and beauty. We forgive you Emma, but please take it seriously for the next Awards. Thank you.
Another stunning actress, Sandra Bullock! I like the top part of this Prabal Gurung dress. The style and pink colour of the bodice suit her. Unfortunately, from the waist down, this dress went wrong in a number of ways. Let's see how:
1/ The extra volume at the waist and hips make her slim frame larger than it is.
2/ The large bands of black and pale blue going across her legs are just wrong.
3/ The high-low style of the dress makes her look short, in addition to the wide horizontal stripes.
4/ The fabric is wrinkled.
Sandra, we want to see you truly shine on the next red carpet event. You deserve it.
Lena Dunham's dress was not a winner last night. Poor Lena almost disappears in this blinding yellow Zac Posen dress. It seems that everything was wrong with it. The bustier gave her the smallest of busts. The fishtail swamped her and helped to enlarge her legs. Next time, Lena should stick to a sleek design that will show off her best assets.
These were my personal choices. Please let us know what yours are in the comment box below.
Merci et à bientôt.
