Confidence can sometimes be elusive. Have you ever felt self-conscious in a social situation? Or maybe you just didn't feel confident at work or even to go to the supermarket? Perhaps your clothes were not fitting you well, your hair was having a bad
day, a pimple sprouted on your nose overnight? Or did you just feel the same no-confidence trio of "old, tired and fat"?
These times of discomfort and lack of confidence happen to us all, at one time or another. Wouldn't it be fantastic to have a magic wand to help us suddenly feel like a million dollars, as and when we need it? Well, I don't know where to find one. If you do, please make sure to let me know. In the meantime, while I can't perform miracles, what I can do is share with you what works best for me on a daily basis.
You will discover four ways to boost your confidence quickly and a bonus exercise at the end of this post.
First, I am aware of my body shape (rectangle) and size (UK 8 to 10), so I wear what will look good for my silhouette. For instance, as a rectangle, styles of clothes that give my body a feminine outline is better on me than loose, square cuts.
What is your body shape? What is your size? Choose your clothes accordingly.
Second, I don't try to kid myself that I am still a young chick. I may still look fairly good for my age but my twenties are way behind me now ( and my thirties, etc). What I don't want to do is try to steal young girls' styles, in a vain effort to regain my youth. Instead, I stick to the style that suits moi. Doing this makes me feel like a confident woman, happy in her own skin. As an aside, this tenet is one that many French women follow. Do you tend to dress too young for your age and thus feel a bit uncomfortable? Try then to lower your hems and raise your decolletage. This will add oodles to your confidence.
Third, be kind to yourself but be your own strongest style critique. If you are in any doubt about a piece or a whole outfit when you look in the mirror, do not hesitate to change it for something you will feel and look better in. If you don't, your confidence will suffer. A little nagging doubt will be eating away at your confidence the whole time you are wearing it. Listen to your intuition, it knows best.
Fourth, once you are certain that your outfit is right, your hair looks great, your beauty and health regime obviously paid off, pat yourself on the back. You're done.
