Today's topic is hips and thighs, and how to slim them down, visually.
Do you have wide hips and thighs?
Or do you think you do and wish to slim this area down anyway?
If you have wide hips and large thighs, you may be pear shape or you may not be. It does not matter today. The advice I'm giving you can apply to all who want to slim down these potentially troublesome areas.
Here are five quick tips you can apply straight away, no matter what your size or shape.
As I mentioned in my book Pear Shape, proportion is the key in dressing for your body, no matter what shape it is. If your hips and thighs are wider and so, out of proportion with your upper body, you have two solutions. The first one is to narrow the lower area. The second is to widen the upper body,` however, this last option will widen you even more. What I suggest is a marriage of both. Slimming one while widening the other, at the same time. This will bring your body proportions back to a more balanced shape.
There is one particular style of skirt that slims you down. This is the A-line. The narrower waistband of the ‘A-line skirt’ sits at or around your widest part and then widens all the way down to your knees. Think of the shape of this skirt as an arrow that points up to your slim waist and up the torso, thereby almost pointing to the narrower upper body. This is about optical illusion, my friend. Very clever n'est ce pas?
Empire-line dresses will skim your hips and thighs. They will hide the whole area in an ever so romantic style.
We don’t all wish to look like a replica of Kim Kardashian and that’s ok. It’s high time to bring some chic and elegance back on to the ‘menu’, I say. So, this means leggings are a big non for you, ma chère madame. They would make your bottom half look like a funnel. However, there is one style of trouser that is guaranteed to lengthen your legs at the same time as slimming you down. Yes, they do exist. Go for the bootcut style. Make sure you wear high heels too, whether stacked or not, it's up to you. But, as they will be hidden by the bootcut, it makes sense to make them a comfortable pair, non?
You know, I know and everybody else knows that vertical stripes slim you down. Avoid looking like a stick of rock though. Choose subtle pinstripes or those trousers with one white stripe on the outside of the leg (the so called Cavalry Stripe). Combine this stripe with the bootcut style and you'll visually lose a couple of sizes, I guarantee it! Did I say that you will look taller too? Double whammy!!
