You have probably noticed, if you've had to leave your humble abode recently, that the air temperature has drastically come down. Brrrr! Our smart little jackets and blazers just won't cut it now. Time to head up to our closet, the loft, or other places where we usually
store our winter clothes, dust our best coat down and hang it by the front door, ready to go. However, if you feel like a change as your coat is soooo l'année dernière, then head out to your favourite store to buy yourself a coat that will keep you all toasty and bien au chaud.
To help you make the right decision for a piece that will be worth the investment, I created a board featuring six great coats. At first glance, you may have already noticed the recurring pattern in all of these. They are all fitted at the waist. Women look so stylish when swathed in a cinched or belted coat that enhances their figure, even in the coldest of winters. I must confess to not being a raving fan of these 'cocoon' coats. These are unfitted, loose and wide. (And a sweet name such as 'cocoon' will not hide the fact that these coats will give you a rounded silhouette ;0) ). Their ability to add width to your figure is why none features in here.
So let's have a look below at the six items I chose for you, to keep you looking chic and elegant.
1/ I absolutely love this coat! The yellow, cheerful and bright, will look fantastic on somebody with the right complexion and plenty of confidence. The buttons on the lapels, pockets and front will make a bold statement. As this coat is double-breasted, larger ladies should avoid it, though.
2/ Pink coats are très on trend this year. This soft pink will be kind to your pale winter complexion and rosy cheeks. The wide collar and lapels can be pulled up to offer welcoming warmth against any North chilly wind. Wear it belted to show off your figure. Et voilà.
3/ Long and cinched at the waist, this style is ideal to pair with knee length high-heeled boots. The high collar provides extra protection against the elements. The red colour is bright enough not to look sombre, yet not too out there if you prefer to remain classic.
4/ This royal blue coat, stopping above the knees, may prove a favourite with younger women. The shape, quality and colour will make this coat a true classic. Dressed up or down, this coat will provide a little je ne sais quoi to your ensemble, something extra that will make you stand out.
5/ Another true classic, you will want to wear this coat forever. This shorter military style, charcoal grey colour and classic detailing are winning combinations. Again, heed my advice as regards the double-breasted style.
6/ My list would not be complete without a classic black coat. This one will not disappoint as its fit-and-flare style will suit most women. Due to its wearability and durability, everyone needs a black coat in her wardrobe. Need I say more?
I cannot conclude this post without stating the obvious: for a coat to do its job of taking care of you during harsh winters, it must contain either wool or cashmere.
I hope you enjoyed today's board. Enjoy the new season!
