Stand in front of your mirror.
What are the areas that you first notice?
You know that I love to keep things simple, so for a super-quick guide to the main 5 body shapes, read on.
- Are your shoulders wider than your lower body? If so, you may be a inverted triangle.
- Are you more or less straight up and down? Probably a rectangle then.
- Are your hips and thighs wide with a smaller upper body? You may be a pear.
- Are your bust and hips pronounced, with roughly the same measurements, and with a defined waist? You could be an hourglass.
- Do you have a rounded, pronounced, tummy area, with smaller breasts and slender legs? You are probably an apple shape.
Of course, this is a just a cursory glance into body shapes. However, many women find this guide gives them an idea of their overall shape. Armed with this knowledge, you can then make the right sartorial decisions. It's up to you to decide which areas you wish to play up or down. We all favour some areas over others. Choose your clothes carefully, bearing in mind your shape. Going for styles and designs that accentuate or diminish the visual impact of some areas, you can give the visual impression that your body is well-balanced and of equal proportions.
I recommend that you don't stress over this. Learning to accept your body as it is, is part of loving yourself.
