My last blog post was about buying what you will love.
As a French woman, I only buy what I will love and that goes with the rest of the pieces I have in my closet.
As important to me as only buying pieces that I love, is having a place that I love to put them. I have an antique Venetian wardrobe in which I store my much loved pieces. As this wardrobe is not all that big, I have to make sure that I only keep my best items. In this way, things that I no longer love are automatically curated out and either given away, or taken to charity.
This Venetian wardrobe is an extremely special piece to me. You may wonder why an 100-year old piece of furniture from a different era, century, a different millennium even, should be held so dear.
Well, I love antiques, vintage and the things we call ‘pre-loved’. Some of these pieces of furniture, especially the oldest ones, were hand made, which is rare these days. Each of them is different in some way. Unique. I love the beauty of the wood, its scent and the smell of polish used over years of care for this piece, applied over the generations.
This is why my Venetian wardrobe is a special piece. I don’t view myself as the owner, more as its carer. I will pass it on to the next generation, who hopefully will love and take care of it as well as I do.
I love my Venetian wardrobe. I love its contents just the same.
I buy what I love.
I love what I buy.
When my things are no longer loved or no longer worn, I pass them on. I pass them on to people who will love and wear them as I used to.
This curation helps to have in my dearly loved closet only pieces that I love and wear. Chic French women know that curating their wardrobe help them dress better.
Do you have a special wardrobe or closet?
Do you love its content and curate regularly?
