Warning! This post may be controversial but I wish to share my view on leisurewear and athleisure: this type of clothing may be contributing to your weight gain! Are you shocked yet? How can clothes, especially those designed for doing exercise to get slim in, have anything to do with putting on weight?
Well, read on to follow my train of thought. Firstly, have you noticed that chic French women have a reputation for being slim? Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why? Sure, it has something to do with what they eat. Sure, it has to do with how they eat. More on this later. But, to this list I'll venture that what they wear also contributes to their slenderness. Again, read on to follow my reasoning. If you've been following what I teach about French Chic, you will know by now that authentic French chic style is about wearing what suits your shape and shows off your silhouette. Clothes are close-fitting, they hug your body. French women mostly wear clothes that fit their body. They do not wear gymwear or sportswear outside of the gym or sports venue. We either change at the gym into our day clothes or we go home to change. We do NOT wear leisurewear or athleisure for daywear. Non Madame. For us, gymwear's purpose is to be worn at the gym, not outside of it. The point to this is that leisurewear, gymwear or athleisure is loose. Of course it has to be, for the tasks you will be doing in it. It is supposed that you will be doing activities so your body will move around. For this purpose, this type of clothing is cut loose with elasticated waistbands. This is perfect for this type of clothing. However, where it all goes wrong is when this type of clothing is worn throughout the day, every day. Think about being at the table wearing leisurewear. As it is loose and elasticated, you can eat large amounts of food without feeling uncomfortable. Your tummy expands of course but so does the waist band of your leisure wear! Because of this, the tell tale sign that you are getting full is lost. For this very reason i.e. comfort, you may eat more than you would if you wore the close-fitting clothes, the very clothes that chic French women wear. You see, a skirt with a rigid waistband, a close fitting sheath dress, or a pair of tailored trousers worn with a belt will definitely make you aware of the amount of food you are eating. The very part of your clothes that shows off your silhouette (here the waistline) will remind you that another large portion of that creamy dish will not fit into that tummy of yours without your waistline expanding. Think of it as a fail-safe mechanism to stop you from over-eating. So, you see, wearing the type of clothes that you wear to get slim, if worn constantly, can actually be part of your weight gain problem. Take the lead from a chic French woman and don't wear your leisure wear for any reason other than exercise. After exercising, and especially when eating ,make sure you are dressed in your normal day clothes. In this way, your clothes will be the best friend that whispers to you that that next piece of chocolate cake is best avoided. If you wish to discover more ways to keep your weight in check or even lose weight, help is soon to be at hand.
